Our goal is to win.

Our purpose is to educate.

Quinne Pursell and Drew Clark were honored on May 15th, 2017 at the High School Sports Association Scholar Athlete Breakfast as El Camino's female and male scholar athlete of the year.  Quinne has earned a 4.43 gpa while participating in water polo and swim.  She holds the CIF SDS all time record in water polo for goals scored and steals. Drew holds a 3.43 gpa and has participated in 3 sports (football wrestling, track and field) his entire high school career.  Quinne will be attending Harvard University in the fall, and, following his two year LDS mission, Drew will attend Brigham Young University.

We are the Wildcats!

El Camino High School has been building a Winning Tradition in athletics since we opened in the fall of 1976. We offer the following sports for our student athletes to choose from.  Our hope is that all students at El Camino have the opportunity to participate in athletics if they choose.  Select a sport below to get to the team's website.

Since 1976, our boys’ athletic teams have won 61 league championships and 30 San Diego CIF championships.  Our girls’ teams have won 32 league championships and 19 San Diego CIF championships.  We also boast California State Championships in Boys Track and Field (1978) and Football (1991). Finally, in 2005, AJ Acosta earned an individual National Championship in Cross Country.  Obviously, El Camino athletics has a long history of success that continues to be written.

At El Camino, we strive to achieve the standard set by the California Interscholastic Federation, which is to “pursue victory with honor”. Though we want all of our teams to win on the scoreboard, more importantly, we want them to win as individuals.  Thus, we stress academics, sportsmanship, and teamwork above all else.

Earn PE credits for athletics

Per California State Education Code, students who participate in interscholastic athletics or cheer can earn five PE credits for that activity.  To do so, they must finish the season with the team, earning a letter,  and must have put in a similar number of hours as what they would have spent in a regular semester PE class.  Here at El Camino, PE credit for athletics is available to students in grades 10-12.

Students wanting PE credit and their parents must fill out the appropriate form and submit it to their counselor at the conclusion of the season of sport. Forms are available in the counseling office, and one is also found HERE .

Please contact your counselor, or the athletic director at , if you have any further questions.
