Mr. Omar's Bio
I was born in the State of Oaxaca, Mexico. In 1989 my family moved to Encinitas, where I grew up and attended school. During the first two years of high school I did not imagine myself attending college, however, a few of my teachers nurtured a culture of education. I became motivated and dedicated my last two years to staying on track with my studies. I also became involved in sports and campus clubs. Both the support and campus involvement played a key role to my successful completion of high school.
After graduating from San Dieguito Academy, I attended MiraCosta College for three years. I completed my A.A. degree in Administration of Justice and transferred to California State University San Marcos (CSUSM). My majors were Criminology & Justice Studies and Sociology, with a concentration in Critical Race Studies. I received my B.A. with a double major in 2009.
During my studies at CSUSM, I was involved in student organizations such as Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan (M.E.Ch.A), Teatro Molcajete (Spanish theater club), Espiritu de Nuestro Futuro now called Standing Together As oNe Dream (S.T.A.N.D), and Oaxaca Student Organization (O.S.O). These student organizations promoted equity, diversity and cultural appreciation.
Today I am working on my Masters in Sociological Practice at CSUSM. My research is focused on Undocumented Migrants deportation experiences. Through my educational journey, I have received support from staff, administrators and my professors which has motivated me to continue on my educational path. I look forward to supporting our ECHS students on their paths towards successfully completing high school and moving forward to a college degree.
