Mr. Aaron Grable states:

"The students (mostly seniors) in my web design class have started a web design studio called 25 Design (http://25designcorp.com/) and have created everything from the ground up, to include: a formal business plan, a website, customer "cold call" script, future employee training manual, proposals, invoices and even tutorials to help our clients maintain their own websites after we're done creating them.

It's an easy "sell": local students, working with a non-profit (https://www.realworldscholars.org/), create professional websites at about 1/5 the price of local designers and then donate a portion of their profits to charity.  It's so empowering for the students, knowing that they are no longer part of the minimum-wage crowd because of a demand for their skills and that even before they get out of high school they have a kick start on not just a career in web design but also on creating whatever business they choose!

If you see one of these innovative powerhouses around campus or around town, give them a pat on the back.  They've worked hard this year, both on and off the clock, and have raised over $2300! What an incredible accomplishment and what an incredible message we're sending the community!

We're starting up our final project, where the students work in groups of two and everyone creates a website for a client of their choosing.  They have had to go out into the community and solicit businesses, utilizing those "soft skills" that so many employers are looking for.  If you or someone you know could benefit from an incredibly affordable and customizable website, check out our website or give us a call!  We guarantee you will be satisfied with the results!"

Girls Learn International will be participating in the Clothesline Project next week.

The purpose of the project is to bring awareness to the issue of violence against women, men, and children through a visual display of decorated t-shirts on a clothesline. T-shirts will have stories, facts, and messages of hope about the topic. Originally, each t-shirt is meant to reflect the personal experience of its creator; however, due to school policy there will be no:

  • personal accounts of abuse from students
  • descriptions of abuse
  • graphic or explicit language

The event -which will include informational handouts from GLI members and the clothesline display- will be located in front of Kat's Korner at lunch on Thursday, May 3rd.

Click here to learn more.

Questions can be directed to Ms. Carrie Targhetta.

Many of you know that we play an assimilated Stock Market Game in Economics where each student invests $10,000 and maintain their Portfolio the entire semester.  About a month ago I took 5 of my top seniors investors to Qualcomm to participate in the Junior Achievement Stock Market Challenge.  There were 47 stock market teams from High Schools throughout San Diego, to include Charter schools, Tech Schools, etc. (Vista High w/ their $10M grant).  We finished in second place overall but were leading the entire event.  Because we were in the lead all day and finished 2nd, the students will be featured on a television show and will be a big part of Junior Achievement's Promotional Video that will be out soon. (Mr. Tom Voris, Economics Teacher)
