Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE)
WUE (pronounced woo-wee) is a program that was created by the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE) to lessen the financial burden of attending an out-of-state college. With WUE, out-of-state students pay no more than 150% of in-state tuition at participating schools, compared with nonresident rates that can exceed 300% of in-state rates.
How do I qualify for WUE?
1. Are you a resident of one of the 16 states or US territories that participate? YES!
2. Apply to a participating institution
- Download a list of participating colleges here
- You must apply directly to the institution and indicate you want to be considered for the WUE discount. There is no WUE application.
3. Meet the institution's WUE requirements
- Some schools set a more rigorous criteria for WUE applicants. Double check that you meet your top-choice schools' WUE admissions criteria.
- Apply early! Some schools may have an earlier deadline for WUE applicants. Plus each school has a quota of WUE seats they are able to give away. If you apply too late, you could miss out!
